Judge the complete agreement
Amount, investor, terms, and purpose form one decision.
The amount tells you what resources enter. The investor determines who joins the continuing relationship. The terms assign rights and obligations. The purpose reveals what each side expects the company to become.
A high valuation can conceal unfavorable rights. It can also create expectations that make the next round harder. Examine what the company must prove next and what uncertainty remains. Leave room for the business to develop.
Early valuation is a negotiated judgment under uncertainty. Market conditions can affect it alongside company evidence. It is not an objective ranking of founders. A lower headline price with a stronger partner and simpler terms can be the better agreement.
Understand them before accepting the money. It is easier to question a relationship before it becomes a durable part of the company.
