Use outside help for a defined need
An intermediary should add access or expertise that justifies its cost.
Learn enough of the process to understand the work you are buying. If your own attempt reveals a specific gap, outside help may address it. A company that fits neither a standard fund nor a familiar network may need specialized access. Define the contribution clearly.
Understand the fee, incentives, and effect on the total capital available. Do not assume that an intermediary can repair weak demand or misaligned expectations. You remain responsible for the relationship and the agreement. A successful introduction is only part of the work.
