Good morning.
Good morning. Thank you.
Isn't it great to be in San Francisco?
So, we have so much great stuff for you today
that we may even have to take a stretch break in the middle here.
A lot of good stuff. I hope you love it as much as we do.
So there are about 3,800 of us here today.
We're a little over 1% of the registered Apple developers.
There's over 300,000 now.
And that number has tripled since the introduction of Mac OS X.
Not only Carbon and Cocoa developers, but a ton of Unix developers have joined us.
and a lot of Java developers as well. So we're really excited about this.
I want to start with some updates, and then we'll get into the meat of today's presentation.
First, I want to talk about Airport Extreme.
Airport Extreme is our 54 megabit per second airport product that's based on the industry standard 802.11G.
And the standard was not yet ratified when we started shipping in January.
We were the first to ship this, but it was ratified a little over a week ago.
and one week after it was ratified we had an airport software update on the net for base stations and cards
to bring them totally in compliance with the final ratified spec.
We are a thousand percent sure that 802.11G is the successor to 802.11B.
It's totally backwards compatible.
And as I mentioned, Apple was the first to ship 802.11G in our industry
just as we were the first to ship 802.11 wireless networking and computers years ago.
and I'm pleased to report that since we started shipping 802.11g in January,
we've shipped over 300,000 802.11g products.
So that's an update on Airport Extreme.
We couldn't be happier with the progress.
Next, I want to give you an update on our retail stores.
This is off the charts.
It's been 25 months since we opened our first store.
We now have 58 stores open.
since we've opened them we've had over 17 million visitors to our stores 17
million this is our store in New York it's one of the coolest stores in New
York if you've ever been there I'd worth a visit if you're in the city it's
wonderful this is our largest store in Los Angeles in the Grove shopping center
and again shows how much software we carry in our stores we love to carry your
software and among the many stores we're going to be opening in the next year
we're opening three really great stores one in chicago one in san francisco and one in tokyo
we're opening chicago this coming weekend and this is a photo from last week
this is right on michigan avenue which is the uh best shopping street in america outside of fifth
avenue in new york it's phenomenal that big apple logo in the middle is actually a window
that you can see right in.
Get some natural light on the second floor.
In San Francisco, we don't have anything constructed yet.
We'll open San Francisco next spring.
But this is a rendering.
I wish it was this easy to build them.
And this is at the end of Stockton Street,
viewed from Market Street.
This is what it will look like,
only a few blocks from where we are sitting here right now.
And in Tokyo, we are opening a store.
It's going to be great.
In Tokyo, we are opening a store on the Ginza,
which is the number one shopping street in the world and we're opening it early
next year and again this is a rendering of what it will be.
We've had 17 million visitors and counting. We love to sell your software
and hardware accessory products so keep feeding them to us and we can't wait to
put them in our stores. So that's an update on our retail stores. Next iPod.
iPod, again, we couldn't be happier with.
We just introduced our third generation iPod.
Our competitors haven't even caught up with our first generation yet.
We're in our third.
And it is amazing.
It is as light as two CDs in their jewel cases.
It is as thin as two CD jewel cases back to back.
It has a dock so that charging and syncing is even more convenient than before.
And I've got a great milestone today.
Today is an auspicious day.
because later on today we will ship our one millionth iPod.
So, another great product.
for music of course itunes four and the greatest feature of itunes four is of course the itunes
music store being an auspicious day-to-day it was eight weeks ago today that we launched the itunes
music store only eight weeks ago and i'm pleased to report that in the first eight weeks we've sold
over five million songs online
We crossed the five million mark this last Saturday and we again are thrilled.
Now, we ran an ad campaign about the iTunes Music Store
and you know when you run an ad campaign if it's really working,
if it resonates with the culture, if people start to parody it.
And it wasn't very long before that happened and when I saw this on TV.
They found another tape of Osama Bin Laden found it was released.
You know, they were playing this thing over and over again on Al Jazeera Network.
You know, I get the premium cable package, so I get Al Jazeera.
Well, we'll show the latest Osama bin Laden tape.
I like big butts and I cannot lie.
You work about Gus Canty and I.
When a girl walks in with an itty-bitty waist and a round thing in your face, you get sprung.
I want to get picture and take your picture.
You say you want to get in my bed?
Well, use me. Use me.
You make it up.
and
doesn't get any better than that
okay so that's the items music store next
when giving update on safari as you know safari is the fastest browser on the
mac
and we think it's the best browser on any platform
we've had over five million downloads of the safari
beta software
that we released in january and it's a phenomenal browser we were able over the
course of the beta period to add tab browsing i think we've got the slickest
implementation tab browsing ever done
it's been six months that we've had the beta software out there you guys have
given us a phenomenal number of comments we've incorporated as many as we could
in and i think we've got an incredibly solid browser now and so today we are
declaring safari one dot oh
releasing it on the web in a few hours you can download your copy and
were also fulfilling a request we've had from so many of you that wanna embed
safari functionality in your apps by just calling a few
carbon or cocoa api's today we're releasing a safari sdk to all of you
as well
so that's safari and that concludes my updates
now let's get right into it
i want to talk about mac os 10
mac os 10 is doing
really really well
let me show you
over the last two years
we've gone from about a half a million active users to seven million active
users of mac os 10
