Connect the business to a useful purpose
A useful company creates value for people and resources to sustain that value.
Money matters. It pays for the work and gives the company choices. A founder who ignores it can lose the ability to serve the problem at all.
Yet financial return does not fully describe impact. A company can change an experience, make a service accessible, or solve a difficulty that affects people’s lives. These results give the work another dimension.
Ask why the particular company should exist. The answer need not impress everyone. It should be honest enough to guide your choices when easy rewards compete with meaningful work.
The purpose and the business need each other. A good intention without a useful offer remains an intention. A working business gives the purpose a way to act.
