Share enough to learn
Do not let fear of imitation prevent the conversations that the business needs.
A founder can overvalue an idea because of the thought invested in it. Other people rarely abandon their own plans simply because they hear yours. The hard part remains the execution.
Explain the customer’s problem and the value of the solution. This lets you obtain feedback, meet useful people, and find customers. Excessive secrecy can remove those opportunities.
The practical point is to protect the ability to learn. Do not treat ordinary discussion of the business as if the whole value disappears when someone understands it.
