Choose advice for its fit
Good support helps you act; it does not take ownership of your judgment.
A person can be an excellent coach without being the best performer. Coaching requires attention, diagnosis, and the ability to help another person improve. A strength in one role can be a weakness in another. Evaluate the contribution in its actual context.
Seek people who understand the kind of problem you face. Peers at a similar stage can offer useful details from recent experience. Specialists can help with difficult areas that require expertise. No adviser can guarantee demand before you test it.
Support should match the need. Sometimes the useful contribution is a question. Sometimes it is an introduction, a specific skill, or encouragement during a hard period. Constant presence does not prove value.
