Design conditions that improve your performance
The best working conditions depend on how you respond to them.
Security motivates some people. Pressure motivates others. A situation that creates urgency for one founder can prevent another from thinking clearly. There is no single personal arrangement that fits everyone.
Observe your actual behavior. Do you use freedom to work or to postpone? Does pressure focus your attention or scatter it? Which setting helps you complete meaningful work?
Distinguish productivity from hours spent. Long days do not prove that you created value. Rest and a life outside work can support performance. Their effect depends on the discipline of the work itself.
Build around the evidence of your own behavior. Do not adopt hardship as an identity. Do not adopt comfort as an excuse. The purpose of the arrangement is useful action.
