Refuse the wrong validation
Customer value provides stronger evidence than attention from people outside the transaction.
Public recognition can feel like progress. A conference invitation, an article, or an impressive introduction gives immediate satisfaction. The company can receive all three without improving its product.
These activities can have a purpose. The problem is to treat them as proof that the business works. Their value depends on what they produce for the company.
Set internal milestones that reflect real progress. Celebrate a useful improvement, a stronger customer relationship, or a meaningful commercial result. The milestone need not impress an outsider to matter.
Learn to miss attractive opportunities. Every accepted invitation consumes time that another task cannot receive. Refusal is part of the company’s direction.
