Build relationships through progress
Fundraising works best as a search for an aligned partner.
Explain the business, the risks, and how you want the relationship to work. Do not perform a personality that you cannot sustain. The investment creates a continuing relationship after the pitch ends. Honesty matters more than a clever moment of persuasion.
Useful updates show development over time. State what you attempted, what happened, what you learned, and what changed. An investor can then observe execution and learning. A previous refusal can become a different decision when the circumstances change.
Ask questions in return. Learn why the investor is interested and what they would need to believe. Discuss ambition, risk, involvement, and future financing. You are evaluating the relationship as well as presenting the company.
