Run a clear process
Turn fundraising into specific actions while the business keeps moving.
Prepare a concise explanation of the problem, customer, product, evidence, and purpose of the round. Build a list of suitable investors and credible alternatives. Begin with people whose judgment and fit you value. Their questions can improve your understanding even when they do not invest.
Track the state of each conversation. Separate an introduction, a meeting, a request for information, and a commitment. A friendly response is not an investment. Identify the next action and who is responsible for it.
Ask how the investor reaches a decision. One interested person may need approval from colleagues or an investment committee. Understand who participates and what remains unresolved. An unclear process can consume time without increasing the chance of a result.
Continue making customer progress. A funding process that stops all useful work weakens its own argument. Divide responsibilities so the company can still build and sell. Keep the effort proportional to the opportunity and the time available.
