Resolve resentment before it defines the relationship
Discuss a problem while correction remains more important than blame.
Describe what happened, why it matters, and what needs to change. Separate the consequence of a decision from a judgment about the whole person. One costly error does not automatically destroy the value of a partnership. Recurring problems still need direct attention.
Recognize shared responsibility without removing individual accountability. Founders can examine one person’s decision while also asking what the team allowed or failed to notice. Keep the response proportionate. Make it possible to learn and continue.
Do not keep a permanent account of every past injury. Unspoken resentment changes how people interpret the next disagreement. Discuss effort, trust, ambition, and uncertainty before a crisis makes the conversation unavoidable. A good relationship requires care even when the business performs well.
