Repair mistakes with sincerity
An apology matters when the customer can see what changed.
Understand the customer’s experience before defending the company. Admit a mistake when the company caused it. Explain what you will do, then do it. An apology that leaves the same problem unresolved offers little value.
Generosity can strengthen a relationship beyond the immediate cost. A customer who feels respected may stay, return, or recommend the company. That is a reason to consider the whole relationship. It is not a reason to promise unlimited compensation or permanent availability.
Care has boundaries. Preserve access for sincere customers without letting abusive behavior determine the company’s attention. Respond proportionately and keep the purpose clear. You are trying to resolve a problem, not win a public argument.
