Keep the institution connected to its purpose
Survival of the organization is not the same as continued service to its mission.
More stakeholders, procedures, and obligations can change what the organization rewards. A decision that protects the institution may no longer help the people it was created to serve. Past intention does not guarantee present alignment.
Keep purpose, governance, and responsibility clear as the company changes. Examine which interests control important decisions. Make the gap between the stated mission and actual behavior open to scrutiny.
Maintain direct relationships with the people whose trust matters. Detailed evidence can spread beyond the organization’s preferred story. Respond to the evidence instead of assuming that a controlled message can settle the issue.
Return to the problem, the customer, and the value created. Ask whether the institution still helps that work. If its structure now prevents the purpose, the structure needs to change.
